Troy Counsell: Rad Hawaiian Photos

Member Of the month time again & we couldn’t look past Troy Counsell & his shots from Hawaii in the member gallery section –they were sick. We pimped him out with some gifts, gave him some credit to his account and got his story…

Name: Troy Counsell

Occupation: Chef

Age: 48

What part of the coast do you call home?

Sydney beaches (BONDI TO MAROUBRA) occasionally Northern Beaches. But I like to surf down 'round the Wollongong area.

Tell us a bit about the surf around there?

Summer sucks with bluebottles and nor' easters, winter's a lot better, more swell and the south rocks for winter waves.

How long have you been surfing?

30 years.

What was your last session like?

That would be Injinup Carparks, WA and offshore with 4 guys out at about 2-3 ft +.

Where else has your surfing taken you?

Queensland, NSW, Victoria, South Australia, Western Australia, Sumatra, Bali, Japan, Hawaii, Venice Beach, LA, and New Zealand.

Best swell you’ve ever seen/ridden?

Ridden was the year of the 365 day swell in Queensland in 1987 ( really sore and tired after that, lol). Many swells seen but standouts were 2009 Pipeline, Hawaii, perfect banks at 6-8 foot during the Triple Crown, and Yallingup Reef, WA a SW swell at 8-10 foot And watching a guy pull into a barrel three times over his head.

Dream destination?

Jeffery's Bay, South Africa.

When did you sign up as a Coastalwatch Plus member?

January 2011.

What features have you found helpful?

The cameras have been amazing, and the forecast section has been invaluable as a planning tool for surf trips and decision making on the right spot to go. Thanks once again. – Troy C
