Member Of The Month – Darryl Butcher

28 Nov 2012 0 Share

As a new member to Coastalwatch Plus, Darryl has been busy uploading some awesome shots into the Members Gallery. Calling the Kawana area home for the past 32 years, Darryl loves to pick up a camera in his spare time. We decided his images were so rad that he deserves to be Member Of The Month and to share his story with the rest of you…

CW: Hey Darryl! Tell us a bit about the surf around where you live?

DB: The surf around here is usually poor but we do get the odd session, just have to be on it, hence why I joined CW+

How long have you been shredding Daz?

I have been a keen surfer since I was 12 & rarely miss out on a surf when its on, or not.

What was your last session like?

Last surf I had was Sunday morning, 1 foot Buddina on my SUP got a few little sliders. Had fun.

Where else has your surfing taken you?

I went to the Maldives in 2000 & have returned every year since, thanks to Levo at World Safaris.

Awesome. What's the best swell you’ve ever seen or ridden ?

Maldives is where I have seen and surfed many swells. A beautiful place indeed.

We really love your shots. How long ago did you first pick up a camera?

I picked up my first camera when I was 17 and am a very keen photographer, I am just happy to take photos.

And when did you sign up as a Coastalwatch Plus member?

I‘ve only been a member for a short while so I hope the Surf Alerts will get me on it when its on.

Thanks for chatting to us legend.
