ASP Australasia Media: WQS Australians Qualified for the 2010 ASP Men's World Tour

World Qualifying Series Australians who have Qualified for the 2010 ASP Men's World Tour

Coolangatta, Gold Coast, Immediate Release: With the final event of the Association of Surfing professionals (ASP) World Qualifying Series (WQS) completed at Sunset Beach, seven Australian’s will be particularly proud and relieved to finish their season in the top 15 on this series and thereby qualify for next year’s elite ASP World Tour.

They are

Dan Ross (Rating 1 and champion of the WQS 2009 Tour)
Adam Melling (Rating 4)
Owen Wright (Rating 5)
Luke Munro (Rating 6)
Jay Thompson (Rating 7)
Matt Wilkinson (rating 11)
Blake Thornton (Rating 15)

These surfers will join 38 other qualified surfers at the beginning of 2010 as part of 45 surfers on the ASP Men’s World Tour competing for the 2010 World Title. Their ASP World Tour event destinations will include Gold Coast, Bells Beach, Brazil, South Africa, USA, Tahiti, France, Spain and Hawaii.

Ross, Munro and Thompson have experienced the elite ASP World Tour and they have requalified this year while Melling, Wright, Wilkinson and Thornton will be exciting new-blood to the tour.

Their gruelling season on the WQS has paid off, the coming few months will be a time to prepare, recharge and be ready for surfing’s ultimate competitive challenge as members of the ASP Dream Tour for 2010.

Their opening event, the Quiksilver Pro on the Gold Coast beginning February 27th 2010.
